Deshaun Watson Back in Action After Being Sidelined by the Browns for Shedeur Sanders
After a tumultuous season marked by constant quarterback changes, the Browns have finally received some good news.
Cleveland’s starting QB last season, Deshaun Watson, has finally resumed his training at the Browns' facility. After rupturing his right Achilles tendon in the Week 7 game against the Bengals, Watson was ruled out for the entire 2024 season.
Although he was set to return at the start of the 2025 season, reports suggested in January that he had re-ruptured the same Achilles tendon. Unfortunately, Watson spent the entire regular season on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
However, it looks like he might be back on his way to the playing field soon. The Browns’ QB recently shared a new video of his training session from the Browns’ facility, indicating that his return might be just over the horizon.
Watson has been with the Browns since 2022 and has never played more than 7 games in a season. Before he got injured in the 2024 season, he had scored 5 touchdowns for 1148 yards.
Although his return might be positive news for Cleveland, the real question is, will his presence impact the talented rookie QB Shedeur Sanders or not?
Shedeur Sanders’ rise in the absence of Deshaun Watson
After Joe Flacco’s trade to the Bengals and Dillon Gabriel’s injury, rookie QB Shedeur Sanders rose to the ranks.
Since his first game against the Baltimore Ravens, he has shown signs of constant improvement. In 6 games played this season, the 23-year-old has scored 6 touchdowns for 1103 yards. His ground game has also been admirable, with 123 rushing yards and a score.
Sanders is guaranteed to have more game time in his rookie season as a starter QB in the remaining games against the Steelers and the Bengals. The fans are divided on whether to give him the next season as Cleveland’s QB1 and build the season around him, or bank on Watson.
The Browns are at the bottom of the AFC North with a horrible 3-12 record. They can get some really marquee picks because of their position this season.
