Deion Sanders Makes Feelings Clear on Cleveland Browns’ Future

As Shedeur Sanders gears up for his second season in the NFL, his father, Deion Sanders, has full faith in the leadership at the Browns’ camp.

On Thursday, the Hall-of-Fame coach featured on an episode of The Barbershop with Garett Bush. Apart from defending his son, Deion also spoke highly of the Browns’ HC Todd Monken, GM Andrew Berry, and the entire organization.

“I got love for him,” said Sanders for the Browns’ GM Berry. “They drafted my kid when many turned their backs.”

Sanders didn’t just stop there. He further praised Berry for taking criticism in his stride and quietly making moves to create a talented roster for the upcoming season.

“I love his thought process, man,” Sanders said about Berry. “I love the way he navigates in the midst of a storm. Everybody talking, everybody yelling, everybody naysaying.”

Per Brian Schaible of the Cleveland Browns on SI, Sanders also expressed admiration for the new Browns’ HC, Todd Monken. He praised Monken’s coaching style for adapting his systems as per the quarterbacks’ capabilities.

Interestingly, the Colorado coach revealed his plans to visit Cleveland to have a conversation or two with coach Monken about Shedeur.

“I think it’s vital that as a coach, not a dad, I could tell him a few things about Grown(Deion’s nickname for Shedeur), how to get him going,” shared Sanders as he was his son’s football coach during his collegiate days at Jackson State and Colorado.

For months, NFL insiders and experts have been speculating about the QB1 competition between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson in Cleveland.

Shedeur had to put in extra effort to prove his worth on the field. He spoke to reporters after the Browns’ voluntary minicamp in April about his previous year in the NFL and expectations for his second year.

Shedeur Sanders Feels “Bulletproof”

Shedeur Sanders took to the podium after the minicamp on April 21, feeling grateful for all that went down in 2025. He was touted among the top QB prospects but was drafted only in the fifth round by the Browns. Then, his role as the starter QB came only in seven games in the latter half of the season.

“I’m blessed. I was in a position to handle everything that comes my way,” Sanders told the reporters. “So, now I feel bulletproof.”

The QB expressed excitement over the new coaching staff, especially for the new HC, Todd Monken. Sanders concluded by saying that he’s excited about the new opportunities this season will bring for him.
