Deion Sanders Jumps to Son Shedeur's Defense Amidst Backlash Over Post-Game Stance

"He’s not just saying the right things, he’s doing and living the right things. He’s a Sanders." Deion Sanders knew the struggles his son faced after a disastrous start against the Ravens. And it looks like he was right.

Shedeur won his first NFL start for the Cleveland Browns and his post-game comments were bold. “I’m who they’ve been looking for," he said, later adding, "It’s amazing, you know, off of one week of practice. This is one week of practice. So, imagine what a full offseason would look like. It gets dangerous. But it’s just one week of practice, so I’m truly thankful that everything happened." But now, those comments have earned some flak.

Fans began questioning Shedeur's humility, but Coach Prime is having none of it. Taking to X, Deion Sanders wrote, "Thank u Jesus," reposting Shedeur's interview from the game. Evidently, Deion Sanders was simply echoing the words of his son, who said, "Two days ago, we all had a big conversation in the locker room, you know, just about God and just our purpose. I’m just thankful. This ain’t me, this is nothing but God’s work. He’s the only one that allows me to continue to play, continue to keep going, continue to do that."

It's no surprise Coach Prime was grateful. Back when he found out Shedeur was getting game time, he admitted to having tears of joy, and during the Raiders game, that emotion was visible. When Shedeur walked out on the field, fans saw Deion Sanders smiling ear-to-ear.

Recognizing this powerful moment, Shedeur said, "I’m just thankful I was out here, thankful to get the win for the Browns. My pops here, my mom’s here, all my people are here. You see all the [No.] 12 jerseys out there. It’s amazing. I’m just thankful."

But Coach Prime didn't just defend his son. Immediately after the game, he offered some critical advice. "You’ve got to just look at the film and evaluate yourself on the wrong, but you played good. But you looked like you [were in command] out there. You threw some iffy balls out there. You’ve got to make sure they ain’t iffy. But you did good. I’m proud of you."

Well, Deion Sanders has even more reason to be proud, given Kevin Stefanski's latest update.

Kevin Stefanski Announces Verdict in Dillon Gabriel-Shedeur Sanders Debate for Week 13

Despite a performance that broke a 30-year-old curse for the Browns, Stefanski took some time to decide which QB calls the shots for Week 13. And now, although Dillon Gabriel cleared concussion protocol, Stefanski is going with Shedeur against the 49ers.

Clearly, Stefanski seems impressed by Sanders' performance. "I thought communication was really good throughout the day with him. And the big plays down the field, obviously that first one to (Isaiah Bond) was a very high degree of difficulty on that play. Are there things that he can do better? Absolutely, and we've already talked about that with him. He has the mentality that he will make the adjustments to the speed of the game, make the adjustments to what people are giving us to make those improvements."

The 49ers pose a different challenge for Sanders. While the Raiders are one of the worst teams in the league at the moment, going up against an 8-4 49ers team won't be easy. Do you think Shedeur Sanders will play well? Let us know in the comments below!
