Daniel Jones Gets Emotional as Colts QB Left on Sidelines After Frustrating Setback
The Indianapolis Colts hit a roadblock in week 14 when Daniel Jones was injured and ruled out for the season.
Neither the fans nor the team is in the greatest of spirits, and from the look of things, Jones isn't either. Taking to his Instagram on December 11th, Jones posted a picture of himself enjoying his time with the Colts and wrote an emotional message.
“Thank you to my teammates, coaches, the Colts organization, and all the fans for the overwhelming support. Tough way to end this season but it has been an honor to wear the horseshoe and play for Colts fans. I’ll miss lining up with my guys, but I’ll be riding with them every step of the way. Go Colts!"
Jones was already playing through a fractured fibula. He then suffered a torn Achilles tendon (in his right leg) during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 14. In the end, the Colts lost the game 36-19, but also their starting QB. The 28-year-old has undergone surgery, and the recovery timeline is expected to be 9-12 months.
Colts head coach Shane Steichen said on Monday, “The work that he puts in and the effort on a day-to-day basis. The grind. A team captain for us, just very unfortunate. One of the toughest guys I've ever been around, so just praying for a speedy recovery for him.”
As for his replacement, when Daniel Jones went down during the Week 14 game, rookie Riley Leonard came in and took his spot. He completed 18 of 29 passes, threw for 145 yards, and scored a rushing touchdown. He will take on QB duties for the remainder of the season.
Outside of injury troubles, 2026 looks difficult for Daniel Jones
After a tough 2024 season with the Giants and the Vikings, Jones joined the Indianapolis Colts on a one-year contract only. Which means he will be entering free agency next year, if the Colts do not offer an extension. Is his performance worth it?
Absolutely, Jones has a passer rating of 100.2 with 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions in 13 games this season. For weeks, he was the QB with the highest passing yards in the league. The 68.0% completion rate and the 5 rushing TDs are no joke either.
