Cowboys Owner Raises Major Concern Over Trevon Diggs as Latest Statement Makes Rounds
When it rains, it pours. And that exactly is what is happening with the Dallas Cowboys. They have a great attacking team that can topple any defense, but they have one of the worst defenses of the season, giving up 381.3 yards and 29.3 per game to opponents, and in such a case, they have lost one of their key defenders, Trevon Diggs and Jerry Jones’, Cowboys owner and GM’s latest statement has rattled the air more.
“I don’t know. I don’t know. No one knows. We’ll just see how it goes. He’s obviously been limited, so we’ll see how that goes,” said Jones during his appearance on 105.3 The Fan when he was asked if Diggs could perform at an elite level. Diggs has not played the last three games since he was placed on IR after showing symptoms of a concussion. This was a result of an “accident at home,” on a Thursday night, as told by the Cowboys coach Brian Schottenheimer.
Before the injury, Diggs had 13 solo tackles and 5 assists in 6 games this season, which is not a very elite performance. Jones' statement could make the fans ponder, but Jones does believe that Diggs can add strength to the team if he plays at his best. “I think if Diggs plays at the level that he’s expected to play, yes. A big yes,” he said on the same Radio when asked if the Cowboys' defence would strengthen with Diggs' comeback. “It’s just amazing what additional healthy talent can do for your execution and game plan. And frankly, the production of the players who are playing around that returning player. So, the answer is a big yes there,” he added.
Notice how Jones stresses healthy talent? Diggs, for sure, is a talent when he is healthy, and his 194 solo tackles, 39 assists, 1.0 sack, 1 fumble recovery, and 20 interceptions in 6 seasons for the Cowboys speak for themselves. He missed 6 games during the 2024 season because of a knee injury, and now he is at it again with the concussion.
And while we are on the topic, Jones’ comment on Diggs' reason for the concussion is not entirely positive.
The Concussion in Question?
In October, when Jones was asked about Diggs and the whole concussion situation, he explained that the situation was unusual, saying the injury and its impact left him unsure about the exact details. He noted that, unlike an on-field injury, where you can “see it happen on TV”, this one was “unrecorded,” making it harder to fully understand what took place.
Jones conveyed that while Diggs explained what had ensued, he wasn’t buying it: “Oh, he said what happened, but again, and I’m not saying that didn’t happen, but a lot of times you’re not the best viewer of what happened to you,” he said.
What do you think, is Jones not assured by the Diggs “accident at home” incident?
