"Couldn't Get Lamar Jackson to a Super Bowl": Tony Rizzo Rips Into John Harbaugh Amidst Browns Rumors
Browns fandom may be sold on getting John Harbaugh to Cleveland, but one veteran insider has a completely different point of view, bringing in Lamar Jackson to the discussion.
On the ESPN Cleveland podcast, Rizzo discussed the possibility of Harbaugh coming to the Browns, and he dropped a harsh reality check.
"Tony, he made it sound like people are overrating John Harbaugh a little bit, and guess what? I agree...John Harbaugh couldn't get Lamar Jackson to a Super Bowl. Eight years and we're gonna try somebody else."
Since Lamar Jackson joined the Ravens in 2018, he has thrown for 22,608 yards and 187 touchdowns (10th highest since 2018). He has won two MVP awards and was selected to play in 4 Pro Bowls, and yet he has won no Super Bowl.
While Harbaugh turned him from a rookie QB to an MVP, there were rumors of internal disputes. These could be what kept the Harbaugh-Jackson partnership from working out.
However, as Mary Kay Cabot reported, "His leadership has been especially valued during periods of transition, with general manager Eric DeCosta and owner Steve Bisciotti consistently backing his long-term vision."
With a squad made up of rookies, these issues may not happen. But that's not the end of the good news for the Browns
John Harbaugh is interested in the Browns: Sources
Sources have said that the former Ravens head coach will not be interviewing with any team before next week. It has also been reported that he received multiple phone calls from different franchises within 45 minutes of the firing.
Insiders have said that the Browns were one of those teams. And now Mary Kay Cabot, a prominent Browns' journalist, said in a report:
"He’s (John Harbaugh) believed to have legitimate interest in coaching the Browns, even with the uncertain quarterback situation and looming rebuild of the offense."
