Concerning Update For Shedeur Sanders as Reports Suggest Major Development at Browns
Shedeur Sanders is facing the heat after a tough Bears defense put him under the spotlight last weekend.
ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Rizzo revealed in a recent report that the Cleveland Browns might be looking for a new quarterback in the 2026 Draft.
“I’m hearing that the Browns are leaning towards taking a quarterback in the April draft,” Rizzo said.
Shedeur Sanders has a passer rating of 68.1 with 946 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 6 interceptions in 5 games. Most of them came from stronger showings against the Raiders and the Titans, two of the weakest sides of the NFL.
On the other hand, Fernando Mendoza, the Heisman Trophy winner, is the one most talked about. He is predicted to be the number 1 QB pick in the April draft. But can the Browns get him? Hardly.
The Cleveland Browns have the 4th pick, while the Las Vegas Raiders, who are also in dire need of a QB, have the 2nd pick. So they pick Mendoza. But that would still leave the Browns with the options of Dante Moore of the Oregon Ducks or the Heisman Trophy runner-up, Diego Pavia.
Sanders himself has expressed no clear thought on his future with the Browns. “You know what league we’re in? You can lose your job at any point in time...Whatever situation I’m in, I’m in. Whatever happens, it happens," he said after the loss to the Bears.
The rookie's position might be in danger even if the Browns don't pick a QB in the 2026 draft.
The Browns are looking to start Deshaun Watson ahead of Shedeur Sanders
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com has revealed that the Browns may ultimately decide to bench Sanders in favor of Watson next season if the former still looks too raw.
“Even if the Browns decide to roll with Sanders, he’ll have to demonstrate throughout the offseason program that he’s poised to win in 2026, or the Browns will consider starting Deshaun Watson until he’s ready,” Cabot wrote.
Desahun Watson has been on the team since 2022 and recorded a passer rating of 80.7 with 3,365 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions in 19 games for the Browns.
