Colts WR Josh Downs Sends Strong Message to Brother Caleb Over Potential Faceoff
What is the NFL without some brotherly love? The league has witnessed siblings face each other on the field many times. And Josh Downs just shared a conversation he had about it with his younger brother Caleb.
“I feel like this batch that will be even better. Not to like talk about the Cowboys scheme or nothing, but he told me if he goes to the Cowboys, he's playing nickel,” Josh said in an X post shared by NFL insider Ari Meriov.
21-year-old Caleb is fresh out of Ohio State Buckeyes and was a round 1 pick. During his college years, he played for the defense as a safety.
With 68 total tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, and two interceptions, Caleb was a sought-after prospect in this year’s draft.
Josh Downs, on the other hand, is a wide receiver. The Indianapolis Colts drafted him in Round 3 of the 2023 NFL Draft. Since then, he has played in 47 games, had three carries, and scored 11 touchdowns for 2,140 receiving yards.
“That's like head-to-head, like all game. It's all fun and games, but I gotta still let him know he's the little brother in the situation.”
A head-to-head matchup is certainly written in stone for the Downs brothers.
The Indianapolis Colts will host the Dallas Cowboys at Lucas Oil Stadium this season. While the date for the game is not released, the match-up itself is confirmed as part of the AFC South vs. NFC East rotation.
Their games would certainly make up for an interesting episode on the Downs 2 Business podcast hosted by the brothers. But, more importantly, the outcome of this sibling rivalry will play a key role in the standings for both teams.
The Colts had a tough 8-9 season primarily because the quarterback roster was hindered by injuries. But Josh proved to be a reliable WR, recording 58 receptions from 88 targets.
Caleb’s team, the Cowboys, had a good run in the 2025 season. They made a 7-9-1 record, but their defense was ranked 30th overall with just 377 yards per game. Improving the defense ranking is a challenge for the rookie, but Caleb is taking it head-on.
After His Rookie Minicamp, Caleb Downs Has A New Update
The Dallas Cowboys are preparing for their first OTAs that begin on June 1. And Caleb will sport the No. 13 jersey there.
“While Downs' number is set to be No. 13 for the time being, it is subject to change and still could be different between now and the beginning of the regular season,” Tommy Yarrish wrote on the Dallas official website.
Since his draft, Caleb has practiced in the No. 13 jersey during the Cowboys' rookie minicamp and impressed a teammate.
“Fellow rookie Devin Moore is already impressed with his new teammate,” a report by Sports Illustrated said.
As both franchises are proceeding with their schedules, a game between the Downs brothers is certainly high up on the watch list. Are you excited for it? Tell us in the comments.
