Cleveland Browns Suffer Major Trade Blow Amidst Search for Shedeur Sanders Replacement

With Stefanski's reign coming to an end, an HC is not the only spot that the Browns need to take care of.
Andrew Berry had made it clear that the Browns have not committed to Shedeur Sanders, and they will be looking in the QB market.
Although they have already suffered a setback in the trade. Zac Jackson of The Athletic has said that the Browns trading for Mac Jones is a less likely path compared to sticking with Sanders.
“There is a world in which the Browns either trade for Mac Jones, who has one year left on his deal, or package picks to move up in this draft. But, at least here in the first half of January, we’re viewing those options as less likely than a plan that includes giving Sanders a shot, giving another developmental rookie (or cast-off) a chance to eventually play, and gearing up for a full-throttle chase in early 2027.”

Jones is under a 2-year deal worth about $8.4 million total, with a base salary next season around $2.8 million and total cash of about $4.6 million in 2026. While not their QB1, he stepped onto the field when Brock Prudy suffered from injuries.
Through 11 games, he has recorded 2,151 yards with 13 touchdowns and 6interceptions. He has a 5-3 record as a starter for the 49ers. Overall, in his career, he has thrown for 12,741 yards and 67 touchdowns.
Cleveland Browns also hit with a setback in the 2026 draft with Shedeur Sanders' replacement
The Browns have the number 6 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. This makes it almost impossible for them to get Fernando Mendoza since the Raiders have the number 1 pick.
They are also in dire need of a QB. That left the Browns with Dante Moore, but he is not coming.
Moore had a breakout season this year as Oregon went about 13-2 and reached the College Football Playoff semifinals. He threw 3,565 yards, 30 TDs, and 10 INTs on 71.8% completion rate.
He also added 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns. But the Oregon QB announced that he is running it back with the Ducks.
"I prayed a lot about it, talked to many people, my mentors, and people I just look up to. And with that being said, of course, I'll be coming back to Oregon for one more year and being able to play for the Oregon Ducks and, you know, of course, reach our goal and be national champions," he said.
