Cleveland Browns Set Lofty Goals for Denzel Boston & KC Concepcion
Cleveland Browns rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston are set to translate their talents in the OTAs that begin this week.
A new analytical report suggests the duo could provide a much-needed immediate separation and red-zone physicality.
Reception Perception, described as “the top-notch site for receiver breakdowns” by Dawgs By Nature, opined that Boston and Concepcion would be a reliable WR duo moving forward.
“Denzel Boston and Casey Concepcion working off of each other is such an awesome tandem,” Matt Harmon said on May 19. “He can go and play some X receiver. He played all over the field. And then Denzel Boston…is not somebody that just needs to play vertical X receiver. You look at his best routes. They're all the routes that break over the middle of the field.”
The Browns traded down to pick Concepcion in this year’s draft. Dawgs By Nature, in a post-draft report, described the 21-year-old as “arguably the best creator of separation in the class.”
Over the three years of his college career, Concepcion made 185 receptions, receiving 2,218 yards, and scored 25 touchdowns. He also recorded 70 carries for 431 rushing yards.
As for Boston, who reportedly has an acceleration at 4.6, his biggest talent is “to win on contested throws and poorly thrown balls.” The 22-year-old spent four years at Washington and was a backup in the two seasons.
He declared for the NFL with 132 receptions, 1,781 yards, and 20 touchdowns. Dawgs By Nature reported that he is a Red Zone target because he “knows how to jump” and use his physicality to successfully catch the ball.
Harmon believes that a Boston-Concepcion duo is “as dangerous as it gets.” Apart from his statement, Concepcion has recently caught the attention of an NFL legend, who is also watching him.
ESPN Analyst Predicts A "substantial" Rookie Year
Recent reports suggest that the Cleveland Browns’ wide receiver duo, KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston, might not play on the feild immediately but are set to have a "substantial" year.
“(Makai) Lemon and the Browns' duo (Concepcion and Denzel Boston) have a path to substantial Year 1 workloads, but expectations should be kept in check,” ESPN's Mike Clay wrote on May 19.
Clay projected Concepcion to record 773 yards and 3 touchdowns. Meanwhile, Matt Sullivan of The Sporting News suggested that the duo should play from Week 1, with Jerry Jeudy being the only reliable option.
“...other than Jeudy being Cedric Tillman and Isaiah Bond, two receivers not nearly good enough to keep the rookie duo off the field.”
As the Browns train for this season, Concepcion and other rookies have much to prove. Will he find success in his rookie season? Tell us in the comments.
