Cleveland Browns Praised for $24M Steal Deal in NFL Free Agency

As soon as the 2025 season ended, one thing was clear: the Cleveland Browns need to invest in the offensive line.
They did finally, as Andrew Berry and Co. are now being praised for signing the former Green Bay Packers center, Elgton Jenkins.
Now, BR's writer, Gary Davenport, ranked the deal at 5 in his report of the top 10 steal deals made in the first week of free agency. He said:
"The Browns get one right—and that was the case when the team signed veteran offensive lineman Elgton Jenkins to a two-year, $24 million contract. It was hardly a state secret that the Browns needed to revamp an offensive line that was equal parts old and bad last year. "
The Browns' offensive line allowed 51 sacks in the 2025 season. That is the 7th most allowed that year. But hopefully, Jenkins will help bring down those numbers.
"In Jenkins, the Browns got a two-time Pro Bowler who has shown that he can play both guard and center at a high level," Davenport wrote.

Jenkins joined the Green Bay Packers in 2019 when they selected him in the second round (44th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He brings an experience of 7 NFL seasons to the Browns' offensive line and earned the NFL Pro Bowl selections in 2020 and 2022.
Elgton Jenkins also earned Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) All‑Rookie honors in his first NFL season. During the 2025 regular season, Jenkins played 538 offensive snaps, with 310 pass-blocking snaps and 228 run-blocking snaps, mainly at center (537 snaps).
Across those plays, he allowed 2 sacks, 2 quarterback hits, and 10 total pressures, while committing 4 penalties. From 2019-25, he was part of a line that helped the Packers rank No. 1 in the NFL in sacks allowed (203) and No. 4 in sacks allowed per passing play (5.1 pct.).
Surely, Jenkins' addition might improve the Browns' season defensively, but his signing alone isn't enough.
The Cleveland Browns Keep Adding To the OL
The Browns are making sure to entirely revamp their offensive line with new additions ahead of the 2026 NFL season. So far, they have added two more stars other than Jenkins.
Former offensive guard of the Los Angeles Chargers, Zion Johnson, has signed with the Browns in NFL Free Agency. Both parties agreed on a 3-year, $49.5 million contract, including $32.4 million guaranteed.
Tytus Howard has joined the Browns via a trade from the Houston Texans.
Other than these two, Teven Jenkins has re‑signed with the Browns. The reported contract is a 1‑year deal worth around $3 million.
