Cleveland Browns Have a Chance to Make NFL History with Youngest Head Coaching Hiring
Weeks after firing former head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Browns are nowhere close to finalizing a new one.
Fans were briefly excited after rumors of veteran coach John Harbaugh possibly joining the franchise made the rounds. But with a newer development, the Browns stand a chance of making history.
The Browns are set to interview the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator, Grant Udinski. If the Browns chose him to fill Stefanski’s shoes, Udinski would become the youngest head coach in the history of the NFL. Currently, Sean McVay, the Rams’ head coach, holds the status.
His NFL career started with the Jaguars in 2025. In his first season, they finished sixth with 27.9 points per game and ranked 11th in total defence with 5,735 total yards. The Jaguars averaged 337.4 yards per game.

Trevor Lawrence scored 29 touchdowns for 4007 yards. He made 82 carries for 359 yards and made nine rushing touchdowns. He threw 12 interceptions this season. However, his record with the Vikings is even more illustrious.
He joined the NFC North team in 2022, assisting the head coach before he became the assistant quarterback coach the following year. In an interview with the Star Tribune, rookie quarterback J.J McCarthy described Udinski’s importance and praised his intelligent playmaking.
“I feel like that's where true intelligence, true wisdom lies: making complex concepts simple,” said McCarthy. “You wouldn't know he's one of the smartest in the room. That's something I really appreciate about him.”
In 2024, Udinski became the assistant offensive coordinator. Under his guidance, McCarthy made 1,632 yards and threw 11 touchdowns across 10 games. He scored four rushing touchdowns for 181 rushing yards.
Kevin O'Connell Praises Udinski’s Knowledge in Both Offense and Defense
“He's got such an unbelievable understanding, from his background on offense and defense, and his sheer football stamina is something I really admire. I joke with him all the time, ‘Nobody loves football like you, man.’ His mind never really wanders from it.”
The Browns are in dire need of a miracle worker to fix their offense. Their other options are Ravens’ offensive coordinator Todd Monken, the Chargers’ defensive coordinator Jesse Minter, former Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaneil and the Rams’ pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase.
Who do you think the Browns will choose? Apart from deciding on a head coach, they also need to fix a starting quarterback. Will the offensive unit look better in the next season?
