Carson Beck’s NFL future in doubt as the Cardinals yet to sign QB despite draft decision

The offseason is almost over, but Carson Beck's biggest hurdle remains untouched. As training camp rapidly approaches, the Cardinals' third-round quarterback is still unsigned, which raises questions about his future in the league.

Drafted by the Cardinals in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Carson Beck attended OTAs and mandatory minicamp despite not yet signing his rookie contract.

According to NFL insider James Morgan of USA Today, Beck is expected to take a steep pay cut in the NFL compared to what he earned during his college days. Despite that, he and the Cardinals have yet to agree to a contract.

But Morgan believes he could sign a contract and play for the team if the Cardinals' offense struggles.

“Beck has a shot to start during his rookie season. He's not expected to be Arizona's Week 1 starting quarterback. The Cardinals are projected to start Jacoby Brissett, but if Arizona's season does not go well, Beck could start around midseason,” wrote James Morgan of USA Today on July 10.

Interestingly, Beck isn't the only quarterback still unsigned. Indiana's Fernando Mendoza, Alabama's Ty Simpson, and Penn State's Drew Allar have yet to put pen to paper on their rookie contracts.

With uncertainty still surrounding the Cardinals finalizing his contract, Beck is focused on improving his game rather than worrying about the QB1 chatter.

Carson Beck keeps his focus on football

While the Cardinals are expected to begin the season with Jacoby Brissett under center, Carson Beck has made it clear that his top priority is staying ready whenever his team calls on him.

“The biggest thing for me is, how can I be the best Carson Beck that I can be? The best version of Carson Beck is when an opportunity or my name is called, that I’m ready for that and that I can ultimately have success and put my best foot forward,” Carson told Arizona Sports’ Cardinals Corner back in June.

Despite not officially being part of the team, Carson spent most of the OTAs and mandatory minicamp working with the third-team offense as he adapted to Mike LaFleur's system.

While rediscovering life under center, he embraced every lesson the Cardinals had to offer.
