Jacoby Brissett and the Arizona Cardinals are stuck. After months of negotiations, the two sides are "significantly" far apart on a reworked deal for 2026, a source told ESPN's Josh Weinfuss.

"Brissett has not attended any of the Cardinals' voluntary OTAs or the voluntary offseason program as he waits for a new contract for 2026, the second year of a two-year deal he signed in March 2025," Weinfuss reported May 23.

Brissett signed a two-year, $12.5 million deal with the Cardinals, which runs through this season. It pays him $4.88 million in base salary with only $1.5 million guaranteed, per Weinfuss.

Gardner Minshew, who Arizona signed as a free agent in March, walks in with $5.14 million guaranteed. Brissett is being asked to lead this offense for less security than his own backup.

After taking over for the injured former Cardinals QB Kyler Murray in Week 6 of last season, Brissett finished 2025 as the NFL's top-ranked quarterback on dropbacks, play-actions, completions and attempts.

But the QB finished the season with a 1-11 record in his 12 starts.

New HC Mike LaFleur has been in contact with Brissett but said this week that talks are the "same as where we were a few weeks ago," per ESPN.

Cardinals Fans Are Split Right Down the Middle

When ESPN broke the news on X, fans flooded the replies and could not agree on anything.

"Gotta say, this is a bold play from someone who, just last year, willingly starred in an ad campaign labeling him a backup," one fan wrote.

Another took a jab at the Arizona Cardinals as a franchise.

"He knows the Cardinals need him, he doesn't need OTAs or most of training camp, and the Cardinals are a joke of an organization," another fan pushed back.

Others had no patience for the holdout at all.

"Way to k*** any goodwill you had with fans here Jacoby," one fan posted.

So another added, "Starting Beck is a win/win, either he sucks and we get a high draft pick or he plays well and gives us something to work from."

Some felt the Cardinals held all the cards regardless.

"That's fine. Let him hold out. Start Minshew and have Beck as QB2. He has no leverage," one fan wrote.

"This dude is overplaying his hand in a BIG WAY. I think the Cardinals are perfectly content with going 3-14 and getting the number 1 pick," another added.

The mandatory minicamp on June 8-10 is where his absence starts costing him money in fines.
