Browns Urged to Sign 27-Year-Old Offensive Tackle Amidst Cost Cap Struggles

The Cleveland Browns are struggling with their players and the cap. And an NFL expert has suggested just the right offensive tackle for the franchise.

According to PFF analyst Mason Cameron, Braxton Jones from the Chicago Bears could solve the team's long-term issues without breaking the bank

“With numerous spots to fill and little cap space ($3.21 million) to address the situation, Cleveland will have to unearth cost-effective options. At 27 years old, Braxton Jones could profile as a potential long-term piece of the puzzle while not breaking the bank,” he reported.

The Browns have over $329 million in total cap liabilities. The top 51 cap liabilities are around $294 million. So the franchise is tightly constrained and has to operate with a limited cap to address its roster needs on the offensive line.

Out of seven linemen, six are entering free agency. That leaves the Browns with limited choices and Jones as the key prospect. As per PFF, Jones has played 210 offensive snaps, allowed 2 sacks, 2 hits, and 15 pressures.

Cameron also addressed his performance and stated that the Browns would benefit by picking him.

“His PFF grades as both a gap (95th percentile) and zone (80th percentile) blocker over that span would fit well with a Browns offense that wants to run the ball,” he said.

The Browns Have Other Player Cap Issues at Hand

Many experts are fixated on Deshaun Watson and his disastrous contract spillover on the team. Most recently, Aaron Goldhammer claimed that Watson’s salary cap is the reason the Browns technically cannot afford to pick up QB Malik Willis.

The Browns can’t afford Malik Willis. What are you gonna do? Pay Deshaun 40-something million,” he asked on Wednesday. Five years ago, Watson signed a guaranteed $230 million contract with an $80.7 million salary cap.

And as of 2026, the franchise still owes him $46 million, even though he started in only 19 games.

A report by Dawg Pound Daily suggested that if management restructures Deshaun Watson and cornerback Denzel Ward's contracts, they could open $49 million in cap space.

But what are your opinions on Jones and the state of the Browns’ cap space? Tell us in the comments.
