Browns Urged to Move for Problematic QB Compared to Patrick Mahomes by NFL Insider Albert Breer

The Texas Tech quarterback, Brendan Sorsby, faces another setback in his professional football journey when the NCAA denied his request to restore his eligibility for the 2026 season. The ruling comes after Brendan was found placing b***, even on his own team, during his collegiate career

The NCAA’s ruling leaves one option for the young QB,i.e., the Supplemental Draft, which was last held in 2023. NFL insider, Albert Breer, weighed in on the situation for the problematic QB’s chances to be picked by the Browns.

“Some teams view him as a guy who had the chance to go inside the top five in 2027 if he had a good year at Texas Tech,” said Breer on the 92.3 The Fan show, pitching him as a potential QB for the Browns. “He’s that sort of talent. I'd rather Browns than anybody else.”

Breer added that he compared him to Fernando Mendoza, Dante Moore, Arch Manning, and CJ Carr. The team would want to determine if there’s a chance to get Sorsby in the second-round pick and then be free from their quarterback struggles.

Breer also compared Sorsby to NFL legend and three-time Super Bowl Champion Patrick Mahomes and Caleb Williams due to the style of play that he embodies.

"What if Brendon Sorby is like Patrick Mahomes?" Breer went on to say. "I know that's an extreme idea, or Caleb Williams, because that's the style of player he is."

Sports analyst, Lance Reisland, on the Sports4CLE show, added another layer to the conversation about Sorsby going to the Browns.

Reisland said that he doesn’t think of Sorsby as the best guy for the QB job. He added that the Browns would want a guy who’s all in all the time, referring to Sorsby’s issue with b****** addiction.

Especially considering Deshaun Watson's absences and the four quarterbacks used last year, the Browns need stability at the QB spot, and Sorsby wouldn’t fit into the equation.

Reisland’s second point of contention was that the Browns would be investing in Sorsby. Given his off-the-field issues, the huge investment may not be worth it.

He concluded by referring to Todd Monken’s recent statements for Sorsby that reveal where the Browns are at.

Monken Shares the Browns’ Stance on Brendan Sorsby

Per Michael Gallagher of Newsweek, Browns’ head coach Todd Monken expressed zero interest in the possibility of Sorsby landing in Cleveland.

“Not at all… I don’t think we’re in a position to want to go down that road. I like the quarterbacks that we have,” said Monken to reporters on Monday. “I think that’s a slippery slope, irrespective of talent. In terms of the situation he’s (Sorsby) put himself in, we don’t know what that is.”

Monken added that he’s seen players in other sports being banned for life for b******.

He concluded that it’s a slippery slope going down that road and thinking that Sorsby could become the Browns’ franchise quarterback.

Based on Monken’s comments, the Browns appear to have closed the door on a potential Sorsby move to Cleveland.
