Browns Still Unsure Over Kevin Stefanski's Future as Bill Belichick Out of Running
Kevin Stefanski's seat is getting hot in Cleveland. Following a dismal 2024 campaign, the 3-12 Browns are struggling again. Insiders now report the two-time Coach of the Year's future is under evaluation.
NFL Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network have reported that things are under evaluation at the Browns camp.
"No decisions have been made on the future of Kevin Stefanski, the two-time NFL Coach of the Year. The Browns know Stefanski can coach, and he has maintained a consistent approach amid the adversity of a transition year with a young roster. But the hard reality is the Browns are 6-25 over the past two seasons, putting everything up for evaluation," Rapoport and Pelissero reported.
This year, the Browns are sitting at a record of 3-12, and chances are they might repeat the 3-14 humiliation of the 2024 season under Coach Stefanski. Despite winning Coach of the Year with the Browns, Stefanski has failed to replicate or improve upon 2023's 11-6 record.
The two playoffs were great, but in the other season, the team had a losing record. Another thing that plays a big role in Stefanski's future is Paul DePodesta switching sports to take over as the Colorado Rockies’ president of baseball operations in early November.
"DePodesta influenced the hires of fellow Ivy Leaguers as head coach (Stefanski) and general manager (Andrew Berry)," the report said. However, we do know who won't be replacing Stefanski.
Bill Belichick is not in line after Kevin Stefanski
Earlier this month, there were reports that the 6-time Super Bowl-winning head coach, Bill Belichick, had shown interest in the Browns as Stefanski's replacement.
Exhibit News Networks reporter Josina Anderson shared a report that the Browns were one of three teams interested in Belichick. “My understanding is Belichick has upper-level personnel still fond of him in Atlanta, New York, Cleveland, whilst all struggling teams going through customary evaluations this time of year," She posted on X on Thursday.
However, the Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot later reported that the Browns were not among the teams looking at Belichick. "The Browns are not one of those teams, the source said," she wrote.
So we'll have to wait at least until the end of the regular season to find out Kevin Stefanski's future.
