Browns Star sends bold message after contract extension

On Wednesday, Cleveland Browns safety Grant Delpit secured a $48 million extension through the 2029 season, but the blockbuster deal wasn't the biggest talking point. The veteran defender quickly fired off a bold statement ahead of Week 1.

Following his contract extension, Delpit expressed his gratitude to the Browns on Thursday. However, despite his appreciation, the safety admitted he still feels he has not “done enough” to fully achieve what he wants to do in the NFL.

“I appreciate the belief that the organization, the fans, everybody has in me,” Delpit said, according to Zac Jackson. “And I still feel like it's so much more to give to the organization, to the city.”

During his time with the Cleveland Browns, the team went 31–47. They made two playoff appearances, but lost both times. That's why, in his conversation with Zac Jackson, Grant Delpit said that despite feeling blessed, he believes he has not done enough for the city.

“I haven't done enough; we haven't won enough, so just like super blessed and excited to be able to continue striving for that greatness and get some wins for the city of Cleveland, man. So, it's time. I've been waiting. They've been waiting for a long time. It's time to deliver,” said Delpit.

Entering his seventh season with the Browns, the 27-year-old recorded 80 tackles, three sacks, and one interception last season after leading the team with a career-high 108 tackles in 2024.

He remains one of the cornerstones of Cleveland's elite defense, but with Myles Garrett gone, Delpit will have to step up to help bridge the gap.

As he looks to make a statement this season, his coach has nothing but appreciation for him.

Browns coach showers Grant Delpit with praise

Grant Delpit was training with his teammates when the Browns' general manager rushed over to inform him about his contract extension. Despite the exciting news, Delpit chose to finish his workout before heading back to the office.

Passing game coordinator Ephraim Banda had nothing but praise for his standout safety.

“His willingness to look at the things that he can improve on and attack them and be coachable has been unbelievable," Banda said, per Kelsey Russo of Cleveland Browns. "His desire to do whatever it takes to help the Cleveland Browns win; he'll do. Everything I've asked him to do from day one, he's attacked it with a positive mentality and attitude.”

Long before they shared the sidelines in Cleveland, Banda had been following Grant Delpit's journey since his high school recruiting days, when Banda was on the coaching staff at the University of Miami.

Although Delpit ultimately chose LSU over Miami, the two reunited when Banda joined the Browns in 2023. Interestingly, Delpit's presence on the roster was one of the reasons Banda chose Cleveland.

This season could define Grant Delpit's career, especially with Myles Garrett no longer on the Browns' roster. With that in mind, what are your expectations for the veteran safety?
