Browns Set to Add Kingsley Eguakun From Lions' Practice Squad
The Cleveland Browns already had an impressive rookie draft class, and now they've added another solid young star to the mix.
Cleveland signed Kingsley Eguakun from the Lions' practice squad, adding him to their active roster.
As per the statement on their website, "The Cleveland Browns have signed C Kingsley Eguakun to the active roster off the Lions' practice squad and placed G Wyatt Teller on injured reserve."
Teller won't be able to play the last game because of a calf injury he suffered in the Week 17 game against the Steelers. Interestingly, this comes at a time when Cleveland's offensive line came under a lot of pressure. With injuries and an aging roster in their OL, there was even talk of trading Garrett away to get draft picks and add support.
Eguakun has started just 2 games for Detroit this season, losing both games against the Steelers and the Vikings. Kingsley Eguakun recently got his first career start against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 16.
Although he might not be the answer to all of Cleveland’s problems, it’s a positive that the ownership knows what areas they need to strengthen for the next season.
The Detroit Lions would’ve wanted to keep Kingsley Eguakun
In the post-game press conference after the Steelers game, he admired the way the 24-year-old.
“I thought it was really encouraging, I really did. For his first game to go out there, I thought he competed, I thought he fought, I thought he played fast. It was very encouraging.”
Most of the teams include players in their 53-man roster, preventing them from getting poached by the other teams. Campbell wanted to do exactly that. However, an opportunity came from Cleveland, and Eguakun took it. The Lions’ HC displayed regret in letting him go.
“He liked the opportunity. So he felt like that was the right thing for him, and I wish him well. I love Kingsley, man. He’s a good dude, works his tail off, has here for a couple of years.”
It’s still unclear whether the rookie center will start against the Bengals. He has an opportunity to make the Browns fans talk about him all offseason if he manages to perform well in their last game of the season.
