Browns Rookie Denzel Boston Clears Feelings on QB1 Deshaun Watson
The Cleveland Browns' decision to name Deshaun Watson their QB1 has attracted plenty of criticism. Browns fans had made their preference clear, with many wanting rookie Shedeur Sanders to receive the starting job instead.
However, Denzel Boston appears to be taking the situation in stride. The Browns rookie has developed good chemistry with Watson, and believes the process has been smooth since the quarterback took control of the offense.
“I'd say, it's been a lot more smooth, the process is a lot more smooth. Being able to get the extra reps that we need with him, and also him being able to take control of the offense of how he wants to run.”
Those additional reps could prove particularly valuable for Boston. Developing timing with Watson will be important, especially with the Browns looking to build an offense capable of competing throughout the season.
Ultimately, Watson's success could depend heavily on the relationships he builds with his teammates. If he can establish strong chemistry with Boston and the rest of Cleveland's weapons, the Browns could look considerably better than expected.
Deshaun Watson's Ability to Find Chemistry With His Teammates Was Actually a Problem
That chemistry has not always been easy to find for Deshaun Watson. Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot previously raised concerns about his timing with some of Cleveland's offensive weapons.
Cabot specifically pointed to Watson's connection with Harold Fannin Jr. and suggested they were not always on the same page. She also highlighted concerns about his connection with Isaiah Bond before the receiver suffered a concussion.
Those issues could become significant if they continue into the regular season. Watson has already faced enormous pressure to justify his QB1 status, and developing chemistry could be key to silencing his doubters.
