Browns Reportedly Give up on Dillon Gabriel As Shedeur Sanders gets Uncomfortable Update on Future
The Cleveland Browns might have finally decided on their quarterback roster, but at Dillon Gabriel’s expense.
The franchise has to select the new starting quarterback from three options: Gabriel, Shedeur Sanders, and veteran Deshaun Watson. But according to Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot’s latest statement, the competition has narrowed down to between Sanders and Watson, as Gabriel might not wear the Browns’ colors next season.
“If they bring in another guy, then I think they would be open to trading Dillon Gabriel,” Cabot said on the Saturday episode of 93.2 The Fan.

“So, I think that's something to watch for over the next week. If they can get something for Dillon, maybe they've seen enough of him. And, maybe Todd Monken has seen enough of him.”
In the 2025 draft, the Browns swooped in both Sanders and Gabriel while Joe Flacco was on the roster. That didn't last long as he was traded in the first week, and Gabriel took over.
Despite the opportunity and former head coach Kevin Stefanski’s backing, Gabriel fell short with the pigskin. In the ten games he played, the 25-year-old threw seven touchdowns for 937 yards and was intercepted twice.
Gabriel’s debut came to an abrupt end when he sustained a season-ending injury.
But All Hope Is Not Lost for Gabriel as Todd Monken’s Statement Is Far From Cabot’s Estimation
“I think anytime that you have a player that at one time has exhibited the skillset at an elite level, I think you’re always going to give them the benefit of the doubt that somehow we might be able to get that out of him again,” Monken said, as per Pro Football Talk.
So does Gabriel deserve another chance to prove his mettle? Afterall, the former Oregon player had a short but difficult season. For instance, he was booed in Week 15 by fans because fans assumed he was replacing Sanders.
His rookie year was also marred by accusations of partiality against Sanders, who is contending for the starting position alongside Watson. And as per reports, the two players have to prove themselves to Monken in the training camp.
Have fans and the management been unreasonably harsh on Gabriel, given that Sanders also fumbled the ball with his poor judgment calls? Neither Monken nor the management has indicated which quarterback is better.
The Browns need to make a wise decision since their notorious quarterback shuffle has already exhausted their pockets and fans’ patience.
