Browns OC Travis Switzer Lauds Shedeur Sanders' Immense Growth
Shedeur Sanders' efforts and growth within his rookie season have not gone unnoticed.
As the franchise prepares for the 2026 season, the Cleveland Browns’ new offensive coordinator, Travis Switzer, has raved about Sanders, giving him a major boost.
“Shedeur, what he was able to show last year,” Switzer said earlier this week during a media interaction on Thursday.
Sanders was benched for the majority of the season as the QB 4. Following Deshaun Watson and Dillon Gabriel's injuries and Joe Flacco's departure to the Bengals, he finally got a chance to play in Week 11.
Although he had a modest rookie season, Switzer wasn't concerned about it.
“He's still young. He has a lot of growth that he can still achieve, especially year one-to-year two; he only started what, six, seven games last year. So yeah, I think there's a lot to be excited about in that room.”
Despite his initial failures, Sanders scored seven touchdowns for 1,400 yards. His three-touchdown performance in Week 14 displayed his untapped potential. That game resulted in the Rookie of the Week award for Sanders.
Coach Prime's son surely has newfound confidence after playing in his first Pro Bowl in his rookie season. Certainly, the fans hope to see a significant improvement in him under Switzer, who has already shown his worth working with a two-time NFL MVP.
Travis Switzer’s Illustrious History With the Ravens
Switzer’s comments are similar to those of head coach Todd Monken, who said that he is excited to work with the 24-year-old. His faith in Sanders is no ordinary compliment, as he previously worked with Lamar Jackson.
A former run game coordinator, Switzer boasts an impressive work history. He was a collaborator with Monken for the Baltimore Ravens and began his NFL career in 2017.
Under him, the Ravens had an explosive run between 2023 and 2025. And Jackson led all quarterbacks with 2,085 rushing yards and a 5.89 average.
And although Sanders is nowhere near the MVP status, Switzer spoke about Sanders’ agility.
“He’s certainly mobile enough,” he said. “We've seen him get out of trouble. We've seen him make plays. He's certainly mobile enough to do everything that we would want to do.”
Amidst uncertainty about the QB 1 position and an entirely new coaching staff, Sanders needs all the support he can get to prove himself. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
