Browns news update: Shedeur Sanders trade, Deshaun Watson update and more

The Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback competition has piqued more interest than before. After a viral discussion about a possible Shedeur Sanders trade on ESPN Cleveland, the franchise appears to be at yet another precarious point in its QB situation.

That is not all, of course, so here is a list of developments in the Browns you should know!

A Shedeur Sanders trade on the horizon?

On June 22, ESPN Cleveland’s Tony Rizzo made an explosive guess about the Browns’ four-quarterback roster. The radio host opined that the front office would trade the quarterback they have little confidence in.

“There are talks, ongoing calls, about the availability of Shedeur Sanders,” Rizzo said. “The Browns, for whatever reason, don't think he’s the guy, that's my opinion. And I'm sure they’ll say, ‘What are you talking about? He’s in a quarterback battle.’ Okay, but I’m gonna say right now for the record. I don’t think the four quarterbacks are going to camp on July 28th.”

His take started a chain of reactions with many analysts and commentators weighing in on the possibility of this happening. In their round-up report, Cleveland.com analysed and broke down the situation.

Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns insider behind the June 24 report, wrote that both QBs, Sanders and Deshaun Watson, are still in the race to win the QB1 race. Head coach Todd Monken stated that he has starters given their performances.

Yet, the management is open to all options.

“It doesn’t mean the Browns have ruled out trading Sanders at the end of camp,” she wrote. “One need only look at the Myles Garrett trade to see that almost no one is completely off limits.”

The Brendan Sorsby and the Browns

Controversial quarterback Brendan Sorsby has declared for the NFL Supplemental Draft. The Browns were “unlikely to bid” on him, and they appear to remain firm on the stance.

Cabot stated the reasons for this take are, first, the four-QB room, and second, Sorsby himself. He has just returned from rehab and completed his 35-day residential treatment program last month.

“It’s too early to predict if he can stay clean, and the chances of relapsing in the first year are high.”

Is Deshaun Watson leading the QB race?

In a recent episode of the Nightcap podcast, Chad Ochocinco spoke about the Browns QB competition. He firmly stated that Deshaun Watson has six weeks to win the confidence lost in him.

“It’s his job to lose,” Ochocinco said.

If he does not outperform Sanders, who caught up to him after his initial performance, he could start this season.
