Browns Linked with 10-Year Veteran After Mike McDaniel Prefers Demotion Over HC Job

The Browns’ head coach search took another hit, as Miami’s former head coach, Mike McDaniel, preferred to join the Chargers.

Amidst all the uncertainties about Cleveland’s not-so-in-demand HC job, one name that has constantly been linked besides defensive coach Jim Schwartz is Todd Monken.

The 59-year-old was not considered a frontrunner for the Browns’ job. The rumors were that he was going to join John Harbaugh at the New York Giants. However, because ‌Cleveland admires his expertise, it explains why Monken is still linked to them.

As per veteran Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot, the Browns were impressed by his impact on Lamar Jackson and the Ravens’ offense. Since he took over as Baltimore’s OC, the Ravens have become one of the best offensive teams in the league.

“If Monken gets the job, it’s possible he’ll keep [Jim] Schwartz as defensive coordinator, and then just have to build out his offensive staff,” Cabot wrote.

Other prominent candidates include Cleveland’s DC Jim Schwartz, who helped the Browns' defense stand out in a season plagued with offensive line and QB issues. However, the overall delay hasn't sat well with fans.

Browns Fans Lose Patience After Limited Progress

Andrew Berry and the Browns’ front office are under immense pressure. Due to an uncertainty revolving around the QB position and the Browns' offensive struggles, they haven't solved the HC puzzle yet.

Fans have also criticized them for dragging the progress too long. Especially, six out of ten teams, including the Atlanta Falcons, who hired Browns' former coach Kevin Stefanski, and the New York Giants, have found their head coaches before them.

However, taking their time to find a person for an important position could be a wise decision. There are also a couple of young candidates, in 30-year-old Jaguars OC Grant Udinski and 35-year-old Rams passing game coordinator Nate Scheelhasse.

Who do you think will fill in Stefanski's shoes in Cleveland? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
