Browns Linked With Rivals Head Coach After Ravens End 18 Year Relationship
The Cleveland Browns could have a Super Bowl-winning coach replacing Kevin Stefanski in the next few weeks. After the Baltimore Ravens fired John Harbaugh, the Browns are apparently welcoming him with open arms.
Browns reporter and NFL expert Mary Kay Cabot reported on X, "Browns will likely be interested in fired #Ravens legend John Harbaugh as a possible replacement for Kevin Stefanski."
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Harbaugh’s agent, Bryan Harlan, received calls from seven teams interested in Harbaugh in the first 45 minutes after his firing.
Cabot anticipated in her report, "There are seven NFL vacancies, including the Ravens’, meaning there’s a good chance the Browns have already called."
Harbaugh led the Ravens to 12 playoff berths in 18 seasons, Super Bowl XLVII, and six AFC North division championships. He is among the few NFL coaches to win a playoff game in each of his first five seasons. Plus, his connection to Cleveland is a bonus.
In a 2011 email to Ravens players, he shared he was born in downtown Cleveland and grew up a Browns fan, and that his immediate family were “hardcore Browns fans.”
Then in 2018, he also said, “All of our family on my mom’s side is from Cleveland, and all of my family on my dad’s side is Browns fans. We all grew up Browns fans.”
Harbaugh is not the only Ravens coach the Cleveland Browns are interested in
The Browns hired Todd Monken as their offensive coordinator under head coach Freddie Kitchens on January 14, 2019. This was his first and only season in that position with them, but he might be back.
Cabot reported, "Monken, 59, the Ravens’ offensive coordinator, is the first known interview request by the Browns on Tuesday in their quest to replace Kevin Stefanski."
Monken had called the plays for the Bucs in 2018. That season, they had the No. 1 passing attack with 320.3 yards per game. Their running game was ranked 29th, and their offense was third overall. Though Kitchens did not let him call plays in 2019.
What do you think? Can he change things for Cleveland the next season?
