Browns Linked With Josh Allen’s Ex-Teammate Ahead of 2026

The NFL offseason is still having free agents in the market. The Cleveland Browns could take advantage of the situation and sign them with the team, especially when it comes to players like Joey Bosa, who was with the Buffalo Bills in 2025.

The Browns already have a strong defense, thanks to defensive end Myles Garrett. However, they can add to the depth chart with the former Bills’ defensive end.

“While Myles Garrett broke the NFL’s single-sack record last season (23), the Browns didn't have another edge rusher who reached six. So, there’s an opportunity to add more playmaking on what’s already a strong defense,” said Ben Arthur of FOX Sports. “The 30-year-old Bosa, a five-time Pro Bowler with the Chargers, had five sacks and a league-high forced fumble with the Buffalo Bills in 2025.”

Arthur suggested that Bosa could be the perfect fit for the Browns in his analysis of where the remaining top 2026 free agents could land.

Per Marissa Myers of The Wrightway Sports Network, the Browns already have a strong defensive foundation with Myles Garrett. However, while Garrett made a record 23 sacks last season, there was no other edge rusher who could account for at least six sacks.

Myers further added that during playoffs and in games against elite AFC quarterbacks, one dominant pass rusher isn’t enough.

The Browns need a second threat who can “finish drives, force hurried throws and create turnovers” on the opposite side, and this is where Bosa could help.

With Garrett, Bosa doesn’t need to be at his maximum capacity. He could have a reduced role and come in during high-leverage moments. This is an added advantage for Bosa, who has dealt with injuries recently.

There is a possibility for Bosa to consider the trade due to his connection with his alma mater, Ohio State, where it all began for him.

The Ohio State Factor Influencing Joey Bosa’s Trade

Before getting drafted by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2016, Joey Bosa was at Ohio State from 2013 to 2015. Bosa went on to become a star player there and one of the best defensive prospects.

Stephen Means of Cleveland.com reported that Bosa showed potential in his freshman year at Ohio State with 42 tackles, 13.5 TFLs, and 7.5 sacks.

In 2014, Bosa unleashed his most productive version with 55 tackles, 21 TFLs, and 13.5 sacks. His second-year success established him as one of the best defensive players and made NFL teams pursue him.

If Bosa returns to the state where the foundation for his NFL journey was laid, it would become a legitimate storyline for Cleveland in their 2026 season.
