Browns Likely Robbed Of The Chance To Bring Top 49ers Star to Help Shedeur Sanders
The Cleveland Browns’ attempt to improve their offense just hit a dead end. The franchise was looking to rope in wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk to elevate quarterback Shedeur Sanders, but new developments suggest otherwise.
According to CBS Sports' Jordan Dajani, the Chargers are leading the race to sign the wide receiver.
“It’s clear that the Chargers need to upgrade the depth on the offensive line, but they could be in the market for a new weapon, too. Following his release from the San Francisco 49ers, Aiyuk will sign with the Chargers to help Justin Herbert reach that next level,” Dajani wrote.
This comes in light of ESPN insider Benjamin Solak predicting that the Browns would trade Brandon Aiyuk, the San Francisco 49ers’ wide receiver.
Aiyuk was the perfect trade choice for the Browns as his four-year, $120 million contract extension is coming to an end this year.
While Sanders has his many shortcomings, the Browns were also disadvantaged because of their wide receivers. Jerry Jeudy made two touchdowns for 602 yards, and Isiah Bond made none.
Aiyuk had an incredible 2023 season. He had made 75 receptions for 1,342 yards, seventh most in the NFL that season. Aiyuk also ranked second with 17.9 yards per reception and had scored seven touchdowns. However, he has remained out since suffering a knee injury.
But if the Chargers pick him up, what's the alternative for the Browns?
What's Next for the Browns?
In the 2026 NFL Draft, one player has emerged as a strong candidate for the Browns: Carnell Tate.
As per Zac Jackson of The Athletic, "Tate is just 21 and isn’t a finished product. But his explosion and body control give him a chance to eventually become a top-tier NFL wide receiver, and he’s good enough immediately to help whomever the quarterback(s) might be in 2026."
At the same time, the Browns need serious reinforcements for their offensive line. Who do you think they will pick? Tell us and follow the Cleveland Browns Community for more.
