Browns Latest QB Sends Strong Message Ahead of 2026 Season
The Cleveland Browns might have just drafted their most confident QB yet in 2026. The sixth-round and overall 182nd pick, Taylen Green, knows some of his attributes are better than some of the NFL's greatest quarterbacks.
The 6’6 and 215-pound rookie QB was seen at the Browns' rookie minicamp last weekend. He did not hold back in his conversation with Browns’ insider journalist Mary Kay Cabot when asked if there was any QB he could compare his potential to.
“To be honest, no,” answered Green. “I would say of course Lamar Jackson, but he ain’t 6 foot 6. Josh Allen is close, but I’m 230. He’s like 260. My dad says Randall Cunningham-ish. I really don’t think there’s anybody like me. Not in a like c**** way or anything, just some confidence. There’s nobody that moves like that, that’s as tall as me.”
Per NFL Research, Green’s 4.36 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine was the second-fastest by any QB since 2003.

On the first day of the minicamp, Kelsey Russo of the Cleveland Browns reported that Green showcased his speed and was leading the reps in both 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 drills.
Although confident in his abilities and game, the 24-year-old rookie is aware of his status compared to the other Browns QBs.
“They have experience in the league and success at a high level,” said Green. “So, I’m just a young pup. I feel like a freshman again and just trying to take everything in and learn at a steep curve. I’m going to probably get on their nerves and ask a lot of questions, but that’s ok.”
As per Grant Gordon of NFL.com, Green’s excellent athleticism needs some refining at the quarterback camp, which could have been a reason for his pick in the sixth round.
He also notes that Green landed in the best spot, specifically with new head coach Todd Monken, who had previously trained QB Lamar Jackson during his tenure as the OC of the Baltimore Ravens.
Todd Monken is Excited to Work With the Browns’ Newest QB
Todd Monken was visibly excited to see Green on the field and addressed the comparison between him and Lamar.
“We did some things with Lamar, but he was already further along,” said Monken. “But you can see that with Tay. You can see him from what he was at Boise to then getting with Bobby Petrino and the guys at Arkansas, he’s come a long way.”
In his first year as head coach, Monken will now have four quarterback options to pick from, including Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, and Dillon Gabriel in addition to Green.
“It’s exciting to have him out here and let him just play through some things…. I’m excited for him," Monken further stated. "He’s a great kid and everything we’ve heard about him so far has been true.”
With the season just around the corner, how coach Monken uses Green on the field will be telling of the 24-year-old’s confidence in his abilities.
