Browns insider reveals how many games Deshaun Watson will get

Deshaun Watson enters the season as the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback, but questions remain over his margin for error.

Browns insider Tony Grossi discussed Deshaun Watson’s situation on ESPN Cleveland, outlining why a quick decision could be made regarding the QB1 situation.

The Browns host Carolina on September 27 before welcoming Pittsburgh four days later on October 1. That tight turnaround could become significant if Watson struggles during the opening stretch. Grossi explained his thinking on the show:

“I vacillate between 2 and 4 games, because those 2 home games are within four days of each other. There's Sunday, and there's a Thursday against Pittsburgh. So I could see him going 4 games, but I could also see him getting out of there in 2."

Grossi then faced a direct question about whether the first two weeks could determine Watson’s future. He responded emphatically:

“Absolutely, absolutely!”

The comments suggest Watson could have a narrow window early to prove he deserves an extended run as Cleveland’s starter.

Browns fans remain unconvinced by Deshaun Watson

Browns fans remain unconvinced by Deshaun Watson, adding pressure around his return from injury, which saw him miss the whole of the 2025 season.

Cleveland fans have watched Watson struggle to establish himself since joining the team. That skepticism could intensify if he fails to produce consistently from the outset.

The Browns have other quarterback options, giving the coaching staff alternatives if Watson cannot meet expectations.

A strong start could help Watson win support, while early struggles could push Cleveland toward a change.
