Browns given clear warning about turning to Shedeur Sanders too soon

The Cleveland Browns face a key quarterback decision while trying to keep playoff hopes alive. The timing of a change matters most now.

Renowned sports journalist Mary Kay Cabot addressed this on Orange and Brown Talk. She believes Deshaun Watson should remain an option while Cleveland remains in playoff contention:

“The time that you turn it over to Shedeur Sanders is when you know you're not going to the playoffs. Deshaun Watson has the ability to take this team to the playoffs.”

Cabot acknowledged that Watson was not necessarily a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback, but argued he could win enough games to keep Cleveland in contention:

“He's got what it takes to keep winning some football games. So I would not turn it over to Shedeur or Dillon until you know that you're not making the playoffs.”

She believes Cleveland should not remove Watson from consideration while its postseason hopes remain alive.

Browns' quarterback decision carries significant stakes

Mary Kay Cabot's argument leaves the Browns with a question of timing. Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel could use valuable late-season opportunities if Cleveland falls out of contention.

Waiting would allow the team to pursue its playoff hopes before shifting its focus to evaluating the younger quarterbacks. It would give Cleveland a clearer point to assess its quarterback options.

The decision will depend on the Browns' position as the season progresses. If contention remains realistic, Deshaun Watson could stay in the mix. If the team is eliminated, Sanders or Gabriel could finally get their chance to show what they can do.
