Browns Get Fresh Hope After Multiple NFL Head Coaches Ditch Cleveland for Better Jobs
After losing Mike McDaniel and John Harbaugh, there is some positive news for the Cleveland Browns.
According to NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, Grant Udinski and the Browns might be on the same page.
In an X post on Friday, Fowler wrote, “Browns hosting Jaguars OC Grant Udinski today in Cleveland. Interest in Udinski is real. The expectation as of now is that Cleveland goes into next week with the search and definitely wants to speak with Rams assistant Nate Scheelhaase. But Udinski has his chance to impress in-person.”
Udinski could be everything the Browns need to rebuild themselves. In the 2025 regular season, the Jaguars scored 27.9 points per game and finished sixth overall in the league. Trevor Lawrence threw 29 passing touchdowns over 4,007 yards and scored nine rushing touchdowns.
Shedeur Sandes' 1400 yards and 7 passing touchdowns pale in comparison. And while the Browns' defense topped the league, their offense was one of the worst, managing an average of 262.1 yards per game, scoring just 16.7 points in each game.
However, there are a few hiccups. The Buffalo Bills are also interested in Udinski, setting up an interview with him. Moreover, since the Browns haven't fulfilled the Rooney Rule, moving to the advanced stages of hiring could be an issue.
They've already lost Harbaugh to the Giants, and with McDaniel going to the Rams, the Browns need to step up. That's why they have kept their options open.
As GM Andrew Berry said, "We’ll be pretty open-minded. I think there are a number of different archetypes of successful head coaches. I think about Kevin, I think it’s easy to forget now that he has, you know, two Coach of the Year awards on his mantle, that when he was interviewed first in 2019 and he didn’t get the job, and then again, I guess it was 2020 and he did."
The Browns Are Also Interviewing 35-Year-Old Nathan Scheelhaase
His work with Matthew Stafford was impressive. Stafford had 3,762 and 20 touchdowns. After Scheelhaase joined the team, the veteran quarterback managed over 4,707 yards and 46 touchdowns. He's now leading the team at the Championship game.
That's why Nathan Scheelhaase's interview will take place after the game.
Things might be bleak for the franchise now. But they need to take their time finding a good replacement for Stefanski if they want to become a winning franchise.
