Browns' Find Potential Martin Emerson Replacement with Top Free Agent

The Cleveland defense took a hit when Martin Emerson suffered an Achilles tear in training camp and missed the entire season.
Unfortunately for him, there has been no movement in his recovery. As he is about to become a free agent, Berry is looking for a replacement. The team could target Tampa Bay Buccaneers' cornerback Jamel Dean.
He joined the Bucs in the 2019 season and has spent seven years there. Dean has ranked as the #5 best free agent on the market according to the PFF.
In the last season, Dean played 14 games and recorded 46 tackles, a couple of QB hits, a sack, and 3 interceptions. His performance raises the question of whether he is the right choice for the Browns.
The Cleveland Browns already have experienced players on defense. It includes the five-time Pro Bowler Denzel Ward, the safety Grant Delpit, and Tyson Campbell, who, despite playing his first season at Cleveland, is an experienced player.
But, with Emerson possibly out on his way, Jim Schwartz's defense scheme needs a proper solution. Jamel Dean could form the three-cornerback partnership alongside Ward and Campbell.
In the last season, Dean truly made his mark as a shutdown corner. He did not allow a single touchdown, with only 43.1% pass completion ratio. Not only that, the Bucs' cornerback only allowed one pass greater than 20 yards.
Dean is projected to be the highest-paid free agent for the next season. Unfortunately for the Browns, it won't be that easy to get him.
Multiple Franchises Are Targeting Jamel Dean
According to Bleacher Report's Mel Moton, the Los Angeles Rams are the top contender for Dean's free agency.
"Dean would be the best cornerback on the Rams roster right now. At 29, with 77 career starts, he's an experienced cover man who can match up against the opposing team's top receiver."
Another franchise that could jump into the race to get Dean is the Detroit Lions. The injuries have deeply hurt them in the 2025 season, as they missed the playoffs. S Brian Branch, CB Terrion Arnold, and S Kerby Joseph have been big misses.
Adding Dean would significantly upgrade their defense. So, which franchise will get his services next season? Let us know in the comments!
