Browns Expert Urges Jim Schwartz to Commit to Cleveland Amidst New Contract Rumors

While the coaching situation in Cleveland looks solved, there might be problems brewing internally. Although Jim Schwartz hasn't made a public statement, reports say he isn't happy with the Browns' picking Todd Monken.

Browns Expert, Ken Carman, discussed a solution for this on 92.3 The Fan.

"I'm sure Jim Schwartz is a good guy. We've got to protect against the protectables. So let's protect it and give me till 2027 through 2027. That means...we have to work together as a team instead of back-fighting and little things like that, which is bound to happen when you've already told everybody what your intentions are with this."

At the moment, Schwartz has a contract that runs through the 2026 season, but Carman has a proposition. He wants the team to offer Schwartz not just more money but also a contract extension. And considering his impact, that might be necessary to keep him around.

In his first two seasons as defensive coordinator with Cleveland, the Browns ranked second in passing yards allowed per game (188.6) and third in total yards allowed per game (306.1). And in the last season, the defense managed the fourth-fewest total yards per game (283.6).

That's why Monken is happy to keep him on. However, can they fend off interest from other teams in the league?

The Contract is the Only Thing Stopping Jim Schwartz

There was some indication from Schwartz that he might leave the organization, even though he’s under contract for 2026.

ESPN NFL reporter, Nick Wagoner, reported on X, "RE: Jim Schwartz: #49ers were interested just as many teams are/were. But didn’t get the sense from anyone that he’d shake loose from Cleveland. Too much uncertainty there to ignore a strong, well liked candidate available now."

The Browns are unlikely to release him from his contract. They can prevent a move as long as it’s not for a head-coaching job. What do you think?
