Browns Expert Makes Major Lamar Jackson Claim Following Browns’ Todd Monken Hiring
Todd Monken's addition to the Cleveland Browns has brought his work under close scrutiny. And while fans were happy to get a coach who trained Lamar Jackson, NFL experts are now second-guessing that aspect.
Jonathan Peterlin, appearing on 92.3 The Fan on January 30th, stated, "I don't think we can look at Lamar as a success story in the Monken story... From a personality standpoint is what we're discussing not a production standpoint.”
On paper, Monken helped create one of the best producing offenses in the league. The Ravens had the fourth-most points per game in 2023 (28.4) and third-most in 2024 (30.5). However, as fans may have noticed, the relationship between the coaching staff and Lamar Jackson had soured.
In fact, the relationship was so fractured that the Browns went along with Harbaugh's departure, letting go of their Super Bowl-winning coach. Monken did weigh in on his relationship with Jackson, but he never said it was a bad one. "Lamar and I, to me, had a good relationship. Could it have been better? Of course. Lamar and I never had an issue."
Perhaps that's why new coach Jesse Minter is taking time to build a relationship with Jackson as he takes over the reins. And in Cleveland, Monken may be learning from his mistakes.
Fans Are Greeted With a Clip of Shedeur Sanders and Todd Monken
When Shedeur Sanders returned from Paris, he found himself greeting Andrew Berry and their new head coach, who joked around with the QB.
"Hey, we tried to draft your a** last year for God’s sake. It all worked out. You remember that right?"
Sanders had moved away from the Ravens in the draft last year, not wanting to be stuck behind Lamar Jackson in the QB order. However, he ended up being QB3 at the Browns.
Now, after a troubling end in Baltimore, Todd Monken is cultivating what looks like a positive relationship with the QB. Could this mean Shedeur gets the starting job next year?
