Browns Expert Fuming with Andrew Berry Over Controversial Sheduer Sanders Statement

Watching former head coach Kevin Stefanski and rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel being booed from Shedeur Sanders fans was hard.

Andrew Berry, the Browns’ general manager, said, “I can’t sit here and tell you today, you know, whether the solution for or the starter in 2026 is internal or external.”

In a Monday media session that left Browns experts Anthony Lima and Ken Carman baffled, Berry confessed to not committing to Sanders as the starting quarterback because he has much to learn and improve.

On the latest episode of 92.3 The Fan, Carman and Lima weighed in on the implications of Berry’s statement and expressed how they would approach the mess. Noting Stefanski’s treatment and the results Sanders brought in for the Browns, Lima approved Berry’s move and said he’s gotten it “right.”

“It was noncommittal to the quarterback situation because the last thing any of you should want, unless you’re just Shedeur fans, is to have some new coach tethered to the existing bad QB setup,” he said.

“I would've needed to see so much more from Shedeur to gift him a starting job.”

Carmen stated that his Week 1 quarterback depth chart order based on the status quo would be Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, and Dillon Gabriel. Lima and Carmen agreed that new head coach candidates, who’ve observed their performances this season, should provide their feedback and make uninfluenced changes.

Sheduer Sanders Is Not Worth It

The experts unanimously stated that Sanders has not “earned” his keep as the starter and shouldn’t continue just because. Since his first appearance in Week 11 against the Ravens,  Sanders scored only seven touchdowns and threw 10 interceptions for 1400 yards. He appeared in only eight games in the 2025 season.

In the same episode, Carson and Lima spoke to columnist Jason Lloyd, who opined that  Sanders would be a “hindrance.”

“I think Shedeur’s presence will be a hindrance to some,” he claimed.

“Look at everything Kevin went through last year with Shedeur and some of the stupidity and nonsense that was out there. What coach would wanna sign up for that? Particularly when he doesn’t play that well,” he added.

Apart from Sanders, the Browns have Deshaun Watson, who was described as “a swing and a miss” by ownership, Jimmy Haslam. With Gabriel still reeling from the 2025 season, what choice will Berry make?

Time is ticking for the franchise, and Berry must prove the Haslams were correct in keeping him.
