Browns analyst points out bizarre trend in Deshaun Watson performances

The Cleveland Browns have opened the season 4-2, but Deshaun Watson's uneven play remains a concern. His numbers reveal a split between the first three quarters and the fourth.

On the Ultimate Cleveland Sports Show, Adam 'The Bull' discussed the quarterback's unusual QBR rankings. He pointed to data showing Watson had the second-worst QBR in football across the first three quarters, before his numbers improved sharply late in games.

The Bull acknowledged the defense's strong performances but was critical of the offense, which had struggled to meet expectations. He also discussed Watson's performances through the first three quarters:

“The defense, outside of the Jacksonville game, has been mostly sensational. And the offense, I thought, would be a little better. Not necessarily the quarterback, but the offense has mostly been terrible. [...] He's [Deshaun Watson] been so hideous. Like, not just average. He's been terrible in the first half of every game but one, and he's been mostly bad in the third quarter.”

The contrast makes Watson's late-game production notable, even as his struggles through much of the game continue to draw attention.

The quarterback's fourth-quarter numbers tell a different story for the Browns

Deshaun Watson's fourth-quarter QBR ranks ninth in the league, offering a sharp contrast to his earlier numbers.

Adam 'The Bull' noted that the quarterback can still make plays that move Cleveland into scoring range. That late-game production complicates the debate over whether the Browns should change quarterbacks.

The Browns analyst acknowledged why some fans want a switch, but said that Cleveland was unlikely to make one while sitting at 4-2.
