Brian Schottenheimer Wards Off Worries Over George Pickens Despite Lions' Loss

Wide receiver George Pickens failed to make an impact with just 37 yards in the Week 14 loss, he came under a lot of scrutiny.

However, Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer backed up the wide receiver ahead of the Week 15 clash against the Vikings while talking to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

"In his words, he said, 'Hey Schotty, I didn't play my best game.' I think that, unfortunately, none of us played our best game. But again, I don't worry about George and his love for football and playing this game. You know, for five or six weeks, he was the talk of the sporting world. 'Look at George Pickens.' We didn't coach or play well enough to win that game in Detroit. They beat us. It is what it is."

With just 5 catches on 9 targets for 37 yards, it was his lowest yardage total since his first game with the team in Week 1, when he had 30 yards. But as Schottenheimer explained, it wasn't just a Pickens problem.

The team's offensive line couldn't protect Dak Prescott, letting him be sacked five times. Precott even threw two interceptions. As a result, it won't be long before Pickens bounces back, and Scottenheimer knows it.

"I think George just loves football. He loves playing football. It's a place, like most of these guys, where they get to just be their true selves. I know he's great in practice, and he's great in the games because he loves it." While this one might be a bad game, the overall season has been great for Pickens.

He has 78 catches, 1,179 yards, and eight touchdowns through 13 games.

Posting career high numbers, George Pickens has no love lost for critics

After the loss to the Cowboys, Richard Sherman rained down on the Cowboys' WR. “George Pickens, throughout the game and especially late in the game, just looked uninterested … in playing football,” he said.

George Pickens' response to this was sharp. Taking to his Instagram story, he started emphasized on what Schottenheimer said.

“This is a team game lmao, I’m not the only one on the team. Stop becoming an analyst and talking about one player when he is playing a team game...”

With Philadelphia Eagles' loss in Week 14, playoff hopes are still alive for the Cowboys. Do you think they'll make it? Let us know in the comments.
