Brendan Sorsby decides against suing NFL as QB takes major career decision
Brendan Sorsby's NFL dream hit another roadblock when his supplemental draft request was rejected. However, rather than pushing back this time, new reports suggest the quarterback has decided against taking any action against the league.
“There has been a lot of news about me out there, and I want to share this statement to make sure things are clear. I accept 100% responsibility for my actions,” Sorsby said in his new statement, as per CBS Sports.
After the NFL denied Sorsby's bid for the supplemental draft and told him to wait until 2027, his attorney vowed to challenge the ruling through the NFLPA. But it seems Sorsby has decided against getting involved in another controversy similar to his feud with the NCAA.
CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reports that the quarterback has now decided to wait for the 2027 NFL Draft.
“I am fully committed to being the best version of myself that I can be while getting ready for the 2027 draft. God makes no mistakes, and I look forward to seeing the good that is to come from this,” Sorsby said as per CBS.
The league is not pursuing any disciplinary action against Sorsby for any currently known prior misconduct but reserves the right to investigate him.
So, although the NFL has asked him to wait until 2027, it can take his college misconduct into account if it finds cause to discipline him in the future.
His decision not to challenge the league in court leaves him with 10 months to prepare for the NFL and rebuild his reputation. Given that, how does he fit into the 2027 draft class? Well, let’s have a look.
Will Brendan Sorsby cash in on his 2027 NFL draft Chance?
According to NFL analyst Ben Solak, the former Texas Tech quarterback definitely has starter-level traits, but inconsistent accuracy keeps him from being NFL-ready.
He believes that if Sorsby stays out of football until 2027, he would enter the draft as a developmental prospect with third-round value.
“One year later, he'd receive the same grade -- but he'd be a year older, which is never a "stock up" for a prospect. He'd also be in a much deeper QB class than the 2026 draft, in which only two signal-callers were selected in the first two rounds,” writes Solak, per ESPN.
Solak believes that Arch Manning, Dante Moore, Trinidad Chambliss, and LaNorris Sellers are all expected to be drafted ahead of Sorsby.
On top of that, rising names like CJ Carr, Jayden Maiava, and Drew Mestemaker have significantly boosted their draft stock and are emerging as legitimate quarterback prospects.
This season would have been the perfect time for Sorsby to enter the draft, according to Solak.
Given that next year's class is expected to be much tougher, where do you think Sorsby will end up in the draft order?
