Breaking: Browns Trade Myles Garrett to Rams for Jared Verse

The Cleveland Browns are making a massive trade. They are sending their superstar defensive player, Myles Garrett, to the Los Angeles Rams. NFL insiders Adam Schefter, Ian Rapoport, and Tom Pelissero first reported the news.

“Bombshell: The Browns are finalizing a trade that will send two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams, per @rapsheet, @TomPelissero and me. In exchange for Garrett, the Rams are expected to send Pro-Bowl edge Jared Verse, a 2027 first-round pick and other draft-pick compensation still being negotiated to the Browns," Schefter wrote on X.

This move comes after years of speculation around a trade in Cleveland. The Browns selected him as the number one draft pick back in 2017, and he has been a dominant force ever since. In fact, he just had a historic season, shattering the NFL record by racking up 23.0 sacks.

Last year, the team struggled mightily, finishing with a terrible 3-14  (2024) and 5-12 (2025) records over the past two consecutive seasons. According to reports from CBC, Garrett grew tired of losing and wrote an open letter to Browns fans, requesting a trade.

“The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns,” Garrett wrote in the letter.

Joining the Rams gives Garrett an immediate chance to play for a true contender and chase his ultimate dream.

He is highly motivated to win at the highest level and secure his legacy among the all-time greats. Earlier this year, he made his exact goals crystal clear during an appearance on linebacker Micah Parsons' podcast,

“What’s next for me? Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP,” he said.

If this trade officially goes through, Garrett will finally get the change of scenery he has asked for. The trade offers the Rams a legendary pass rusher and the Browns a young star, Jared Verse, as well as valuable draft picks to rebuild their team.

Browns Are Ready To Commit To Jared Verse

As per NFL insiders, Garrett’s trade will allow the Browns to save a lot on their cap space.

"The Browns privately have calculated that this trade is likely to save $30 million in cash, though they are fully prepared to pay Verse when the time is right," ESPN’s insider Schefter stated.

This trade is about much more than just getting future draft picks. The Browns are looking at Jared Verse as a major part of their defense for years to come. Even though he is only 25 years old, Verse is already a rising star.

He has been named to the Pro Bowl in both years in the NFL thus far. In 2024, he won Defensive Rookie of the Year, and has already racked up 12 sacks and 22 tackles for loss in his young career.

Because Verse is still on his affordable rookie contract, the Browns will get him for an affordable rate during the 2026 and 2027 seasons. They also have the right to keep him for the 2028 season using a special ‘fifth-year option.’

What do you think of the trade? Is a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick alongside Jared Verse a good price for Garrett?
