Just when you thought the Brandon Aiyuk-San Francisco 49ers feud couldn't get any messier, the star receiver fired agent Ryan Williams last November.

NFL insider Matt Maiocco revealed what really triggered the shocking split based on Aiyuk's own YouTube video, posted on Saturday.

“And this is a quote. He said, "Why, why the agent?" He [Aiyuk] said he fired the agent because the agent is also the agent for the general manager of that one team,” said Maiocco on YouTube on June 28. "That agent started this because I fired his b***, and he texted my wife."

The November timeline fits, considering it was around the time Aiyuk walked away from the 49ers and was placed on the Reserve/Left Squad List. Matt highlighted that Williams was the same person who negotiated Aiyuk's four-year, $120 million contract extension.

While it was certainly a strong deal, his decision to text Aiyuk's wife may have been prompted by the receiver's social media stunts, according to Maicco's YouTube video.

“My guess would be that the agent would probably go to people close to Brandon, uh, people who would have been impacted by the amount of money left on the table — the $27 million voided,” said Matt. “Um, probably appealing to them, uh, to, 'Hey, you know, Brandon needs to do this, uh, or else he would be defaulting on that contract'.”

However, Aiyuk accused the 49ers general manager, John Lynch, of appearing at his doorstep when neither he nor his wife was at home. The receiver claimed he had found the action "creepy" and asked his wife to "spin around the block a few times" until Lynch had left.

Given Williams' close ties to Lynch, the receiver may have wanted an agent whose loyalty was solely to him

Despite this back-and-forth, the 49ers have yet to make any decision on Aiyuk. But according to an insider, the team has already decided his fate.

Brandon Aiyuk's release expected before training camp

According to multiple league sources, the San Francisco 49ers appear ready to close the Brandon Aiyuk chapter after months of drama.

“I think they’re finally done with him,” said one long-time NFL executive on June 15, adding that his team won't pursue the receiver once he's released, per Sports Boom's NFL insider J.L. Canfora.

When asked whether the team is considering signing Aiyuk on a veteran-minimum deal, the anonymous insider bluntly said, “We don’t need that here.”

Originally, the 49ers' front office was looking to keep Aiyuk on a team-friendly deal, but that no longer appears to be the case. Since November, the wide receiver's constant callouts have seemingly shifted the tone.
