"Baker will never win": NFL fans roast Baker Mayfield for trash-talking an All-Pro star he struggled against

Netflix's "Quarterback" series has once again started conversations across the NFL. This time, it involves Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Quinyon Mitchell.

A clip from Netflix's Quarterback series showed an exchange between Buccaneers' QB Baker Mayfield and Eagles' CB Quinyon Mitchell during a game, but what drew more attention was the reaction from the fans after they revisited how the matchup actually ended.

"#Bucs QB Baker Mayfield trash-talking with Eagles CB Quinyon Mitchell: Baker: “Who the f*** are you, anyway?”, Quinyon: “You know who I am.” Baker: “No, I don’t.” Ari Meirov, an NFL insider, posted on X.

NFL insider Ari Meirov posted on X about the exchange between Mayfield and Mitchell. Many Eagles fans appreciated Mitchell's calm response, especially because he let his game talk.

Others turned the spotlight back on Baker Mayfield, arguing that his trash talk did not age well once the numbers were on the board.

Fans flooded social media with remarks like "Baker will never win," while others joked that Quinyon Mitchell had let his performance do all the talking.

Consequently, Quinyon Mitchell has already experienced as much postseason football in two seasons as Baker Mayfield has across his entire career.

Mitchell started all four playoff games during the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl-winning 2024 campaign and followed it up with another postseason appearance in last year's Wild Card defeat to the San Francisco 49ers.

Mayfield's record tells a different story. The veteran quarterback owns a 2-3 record as a postseason starter over eight NFL seasons and is still chasing the Lombardi Trophy that Mitchell already has on his shelf.

In terms of statistics, Mitchell had every reason to feel confident. Mayfield completed just 2 of 9 passes for six yards when he targeted receivers covered by Mitchell during their Week 4 game.

Numerous fans stated numbers while making fun of Mayfield, suggesting he should have recognized exactly who Mitchell was after struggling to generate offense against him.

Fans flood the comments in response to Baker Mayfield's comments

QB Baker Mayfield faced a strong backlash from fans for trash-talking about the Super Bowl star cornerback, Quinyon Mitchell, after the NFL insider, Ari Meirov's post on X.

"Is Baker dumb? Quinyon Mitchell played a big part in the Eagles' Super Bowl," wrote one fan on X.

The exchange quickly caught fans' attention, who pointed out that Mitchell's play spoke louder than Mayfield's words.

"Baker will never win s*** a #1 pick on his 4th team," Another fan wrote.

Another fan pointed to the fact that the former No. 1 overall pick has already played for four different franchises)including the Cleveland Browns) and argued that, despite Mayfield's talent, he has yet to achieve championship success.

"Quinyon won more than Baker has his whole career; he’s arrived already. What is he yapping about?" commented one more fan.

Mitchell has already been part of a Super Bowl-winning team in his early NFL career, but to the fans, what stood out was their head-to-head history.

“Letting a young player know he hasn’t arrived yet. Meanwhile, he let up 2 catches for 6 yards on 9 targets and 5 PBUs," wrote another fan.

Mayfield's attempt to humble the newcomer didn't seem to quite land as Mitchell's on-field performance was on point.
