Andrew Berry's Future in Doubt as Browns Insider Makes Surprising Claim for New Head Coach Hiring
Weeks after franchise owner Jimmy Haslam announced that former head coach Kevin Stefanski was let go, speculations about Andrew Berry’s dismissal are making headlines.
This development comes across as a shock to many, as there were no indications of it. But with the Browns looking for a new coach, Berry’s departure seems imminent.
Haslam praised Berry for the 2025 draft class and the players he acquired recently, but experts opine that the incoming head coach might not feel the same and ask to fire Berry.
In an episode of 92.3 The Fan, Jonathan Peterlin and Nick Wilson discussed that Berry would be the least of the franchise’s concerns.
At this stage, the Browns need a strong and reliable head coach whose track record is better than Stefanski's and, most importantly, can fix their poor offensive unit.
Among the viable options, John Harbaugh, Sean McDermott, and Matt LaFleur are top contenders. Peterlin assured that if Haslam found the right coach among them, Berry would be gone without any hassles.
“If you’re a Harbaugh, if you’re somebody we actually want, if you’re Sean McDermott, if you’re LaFluer, you don’t have to worry about Andrew Berry. You can fire him the moment you get hired for the job if you want,” he claimed.
Nick Wilson guessed that Berry and Haslam must’ve talked over how serious they are about hiring Haslam, who has the authority to make such a drastic ask.
And it will most probably be met too. Other candidates, according to Wilson, fit in the skeletal draft of what Berry envisions the Browns to be.
“Harbaugh’s the one guy who can walk in and say ‘that guy’s not my GM,’ right, and Jimmy Haslam would say, candidly, ‘yes’. And I would be surprised if Jimmy and Andrew hadn’t had a semblance of a conversation about, ‘you know, imma do anything to get this guy.’”
There Is a Reason Why Berry is On the Hot Seat
Stefanski was held accountable for the 8-26 record he made in the past two seasons and rightfully so. But another NFL expert came forth in his defence and said the Stefasnki did the best with the drafts Berry picked.
Darly Ruiter called out Berry for pushing the infamous “swing and a miss” Deshaun Watson trade and “wasting” away many key players like Myles Garrett and Joel Bitonio.
“He had a team built to win consistently and ruined it. Why does he get the opportunity to continue? He put together the worst WR room in the NFL, the OL is in shambles,” he argued in December.
Ruiter was very vocal about his frustrations with Berry. He claimed firing Stefanski alone was just unfair. But one can assume he is smiling as these new developments unfold. Haslam vowed to turn things around no matter what.
And if Harbaugh or any other candidate can change the Browns’ trajectory, then Berry might take the hit.
