Andrew Berry brings back familiar face to browns after vikings exit

The Cleveland Browns have sought the help from a former manager who is knows the franchise thoroughly. According to reports, general manager Andrew Berry is bringing back Ryan Grigson to the Browns front office.

“Breaking: Ryan Grigson is returning to the #Browns as a Senior Football Advisor, source tells clevelanddotcom,” Mary Kay Cabot reported, according to Dawgs By Nature.

Cabot shared the news in an X post on June 25. Grigson, 54, was the Minnesota Vikings assistant general manager and ended his four-year run with the franchise. He joined them in 2022, just after he was last associated with the Browns.

The Browns expert kept her sources anonymous but revealed that Grigson would take up the role of Senior Advisor to Berry. This marks his third stint with the Browns.

“He was first brought in by Berry after the 2017 NFL Draft, but was fired the following January when John Dorsey took over as general manager and ushered in the “football guy” era of Browns football,” DBN wrote.

Grigson had returned to the franchise in 2020 and acted as the same role he is offered once again for two seasons. Apart from the Vikings, Grigson spent time with the Seattle Seahawks in an advisory role.

During his stint in with the Vikings, he worked with their former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, who was also a part of the Browns’ front office at one point. Grigson was the senior vice president of player personnel before he was promoted to become the assistant GM in 2025.

The Minnesota Vikings fired their former general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah in January. While they hired Nolan Teasley last week, reports suggest that they had another offer for Grigson.

“(Grigson) was given an opportunity to remain with Minnesota in a different role. Instead, he opted to return to Cleveland, the source said on the condition of anonymity,” The Athletic reported on June 25.

Grigson was the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts from 2012 to 2016. The franchise parted ways with Peyton Manning and drafted quarterback Andrew Luck.

He was the Sporting News and Pro Football Writers of America NFL Executive of the Year in 2012. He turned the Colts record from a 2-14 record in 2011 with Manning to 11-5 in Luck’s first year.
