Analyst Calls for Big Organizational Changes From the Browns This Offseason
The Cleveland Browns are facing another offseason full of questions after finishing 4–12 and placing 4th in the AFC North, and it's not just Kevin Stefanski facing the heat.
Analyst Daryl Ruiter has called for major changes, saying the team needs to rethink both its coaching and front-office strategy to improve results.
Ruiter told Ken Carman and Anthony Lima on 92.3 The Fan, “It’s gotta be none or both. I am not in favor of them firing Kevin (Stefanski) but keeping Andrew (Berry). You still don’t solve the problem.”
This comes in light of reports that alleged Berry would keep his role after recruiting a draft class that had Shedeur Sanders, Dylan Sampson, Harold Fanin Jr., and Quinshon Judkins: all rookie players with a lot of potential. However, these starters come after years of poor trades, including Deshaun Watson, who has sat out on the sidelines for most of his Browns career.
It was part of the problem why some believe Stefanski had issues building this team. Outside of quarterback choices and offensive calls, the Browns had questionable squads, and the current state of the team proves it. The offensive line lacks star power, and the Browns lack offensive expertise, with just rookies taking up the role.
And they might already have Kevin Stefanski's replacement lined up
According to reports coming out of Cleveland, the defensive coordinator, Jim Schwartz, could end up taking Kevin Stefanski's job.
So far this season, he's created a solid defense. The Browns are conceding the second-lowest average passing yards this season (163.8). Moreover, Schwartz has already worked with Super Bowl-winning coach Bill Belichick. Could he take over?
Schwartz certainly doesn't mind the thought. While he didn't specifically mention taking over from Stefanski, Schwartz has thought about the head coaching job. "I’d certainly consider it. I think in any business you aspire to the top. And I’m no different than other people in that way."
