This week, coach Mike Tomlin's departure from the Pittsburgh Steelers after 19 seasons seems to have an unlikely domino effect on veteran Aaron Rodgers, who might not return to the Steelers next year.

According to franchise president Art Rooney II, Tomlin was the primary reason Rodgers joined the team, and with him gone, that leaves room for uncertainty for the newly turned free agent.

In a Wednesday media session, Rooney said, “Aaron came here to play for Mike. So it will most likely affect his decision.”

If Rodgers decides to continue, which team will it be for? Rodgers has previously hinted that the 2025 season could be his last.

What does the future hold for Aaron Rodgers?

The 42-year-old veteran and four-time MVP awardee would find a place in the league, as Rodgers has only a few options going ahead. 

Minnesota Vikings

After J.J McCarthy failed to bring in good results, the Vikings need a player who would bring experience to their quarterback call sheet. The 22-year-old rookie managed 11 touchdowns for 1,632 yards but threw 12 interceptions. Rodgers is heading towards free agency soon, and Andrew Siciliano said that “my prediction is Aaron Rodgers does not retire; he is a Minnesota Viking next year.”

Indianapolis Colts

After joking that he found relief in knowing there is a player older than him in the league, thanks to Philip Rivers returning to the Colts, Rodgers might join the team afterall. Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson Sr. were similarly disappointing in their performances. None of the both were successful in throwing a pass longer than 25 yards or a touchdown. 

Out of 11 passes, Jones completed seven passes over 101 yards, and Richardson completed six for 73 yards. Rodgers could be the solution to the Colts’ depth issue. Other plausible options are the Miami Dolphins, if they let go of Tua Tagovailoa, the Arizona Cardinals, and the New York Jets.

While Rodgers doesn’t show any signs of slowing down, fans and his critics might be tired of him. Most recently, Rodgers was heckled by a fan asking him to retire after the humiliating 30-6 loss to the Houston Texans. Some seem to be done with Rodgers refusing to retire, although he was the quickest quarterback this season. 

Should he take a note of fellow former quarterbacks like Tom Brady and bid adieu to the game at last? Rodgers will leave a lasting and illustrious legacy, but why play if changes are slim and fans no longer want to watch?
