805,000 Fans Break Historic NFL Record

The 2026 NFL Draft ended on a high, record-setting note.

Over 805,000 football fans gathered at the Acrisure Stadium over three days, home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This year’s draft has surpassed Detroit’s 2024 record, which witnessed 775,000 in attendance.

The draft was held over three days from 23 April to 25 April. And in a report, Pro Football Talk gave an attendance breakdown of the three-day affair.

Football fans turned out in droves of 320,000, 280,000, and 205,000 over the weekend in that order. The report even claimed that the weather tampered with the numbers.

“If not for rain during the early hours of Saturday’s session, the number surely would have been higher.”

However, in the same article, Mike Florio questioned the survey’s methodology.

“Also, each time a person enters the perimeter of the draft area, they’re counted again,” he wrote. “Coming and going (which surely happens during the Saturday marathon) pumps up the final number with the same person being counted multiple times the same day.”

As per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, local businesses reported a massive surge in foot traffic, with the historic Market Square and the North Shore’s "Gold Lot" hubs acting as the draft’s beating heart. Even with the early Saturday rain, the city’s investment in Point State Park paid off, providing a scenic backdrop that looked incredible on the national broadcast.

This year’s draft was the 91st annual meeting of the franchises. And 257 eligible college football players were drafted over 7 rounds.

The 2026 Draft At A Glance

SEC led the draft with 87 players drafted, and the Big Ten came in second with 68 picks.

Ohio State led all college football programs in the most players drafted this year. Out of the 11 picks, Carnell Tate went to the Tennessee Titans at No.4 overall. According to Sports Illustrated, multiple reports confirmed that Ohio’s “roster this past season cost around $35 million.”

The Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas A&M Aggies followed the Ohio Buckeyes with 10 picks each. While these programs had a high success rate, all prospects from the Colorado Buffaloes, coached by Deion Sanders, remain undrafted.

The Las Vegas Raiders had the first pick and chose Fernando Mendoza, the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner.

As the most anticipated event for college athletes and NFL franchises has passed, fans now await how the 2026 season pans out.
